Dr. Donovan grew up in California, Rhode Island, and Mississippi before earning her undergraduate degree in Physics and later graduating from the Tulane University School of Medicine, Class of 1989. She completed her residency in General Psychiatry at New York Medical College’s St. Vincent’s Hospital in Greenwich Village and her fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at The Payne Whitney Clinic of The New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center.
After early work in inpatient child and adolescent psychiatry, Dr. Donovan moved to Connecticut and joined the clinical faculty at the Yale Child Study Center, where she taught and supervised trainees for 25 years. Over the course of her career, she has worked across nearly every level of psychiatric care, including school consultation, outpatient public mental health at Middlesex Hospital, and leadership roles such as Medical Director of a Hartford Healthcare/Natchaug Hospital Child and Adolescent Partial Hospital/Intensive Outpatient Program and Regional Medical Director for Yale’s Intensive In-Home Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services.
Since 2013, Dr. Donovan has increasingly focused on young adult psychiatry. As the founder and director of Aquidneck Psychiatric Services, LLC, she currently provides psychiatric consultation to four universities in Rhode Island and maintains an active outpatient practice. She also serves as a Clinical Advisor at The Lakes Behavioral Health, where she contributes her extensive expertise in child, adolescent, and young adult psychiatry to advance compassionate, evidence-based mental health care.
